Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC), a Tony Award-winning nonprofit theatre dedicated to the production of contemporary plays and musicals, MTC seeks an experienced and knowledgeable Major Gifts Officer to become part of our Development team.

For over fifty years, MTC has been the creative and artistic home for America’s most gifted theatrical artists, producing works of the highest quality by American and international playwrights. We are strongly committed to producing work that is made by, and tells the stories of, a wide range of voices from all walks of life and to making that work accessible to all audiences including those that have historically lacked access to the arts and cultural sector. MTC produces eight plays annually in Broadway's restored Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on West 47th Street and off Broadway at the historic NY City Center complex on West 55th Street.

Reporting to the Director of Individual Giving, the Major Gifts Officer is a member of MTC’s frontline fundraising team and is responsible for the identification, cultivation and solicitation of gifts of $25,000 and above from donors and prospects, and managing the Artistic Director Circle and Salon programs.

Responsibilities:

* Independently manage the identification, cultivation and solicitation process for a portfolio of approximately 150 Major Gift prospects.

* Conduct a minimum of 100 prospect meetings annually, with responsibility for managing communications and follow-up, including maintaining detailed activity reports and move management information on all prospects in the portfolio.

* Serve as an integral team leader and will work as a department liaison for the Artistic Director’s Circle Membership Program, comprising donors at the $12,500–$25,000 membership levels.

+ Lead ADC cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts
+ Ownership of ADC events, including the newly launched Artistic Director Salon series, finding hosts, dates, work with special events team on logistics
+ ADC Acquisition and pipeline development

* Spearhead Planned Giving Program, helping to identify consultant and/or marketing partner, and coordinating Society benefits.

* Work collaboratively with the Director of Individual Giving to ensure that outreach across the office to donors and prospects is coordinated and effective. Assist the Director with special fundraising strategy projects as needed.

* Participate in major gift meetings to coordinate the major gift program, as well as prospect review meetings to discuss specific prospect strategies as they relate to prioritized fundraising needs.

* Represent MTC at special events, including Opening Nights, ADC Events and Salons, Patron Nights, Winter Benefit, Spring Gala, and others as needed.

* Promote positive donor relations and stewardship.

* Evaluate various gift opportunities and giving vehicles; recommend the most suitable for a particular donor.

*Perform additional duties and responsibilities as needed.

Requirements:

* Minimum of 5 years of fundraising experience or equivalent sales experience.

* A strong track record of fundraising, including major ($10K+) and mid-level ($5K+) gifts.

* Experience working in a performing arts organization or the cultural sector a plus.

* Ability to handle a multitude of tasks under deadline pressures and have the ability to work in a high-volume, high-demand (but highly collaborative, supportive, team-oriented) office.

* Ability to be creative, enterprising, persuasive, and tactful.

* Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills required.

* Some evenings and weekend hours required.

This is a full time, salaried position paying $75,000-$80,000 yearly with full benefits package including: group health insurance with options for spousal, family and/or domestic partner coverage, voluntary dental coverage, basic life and long term disability insurance, employer-funded pension, paid time off and optional 401(K) and flex savings plans for healthcare, dependent care and commuting expenses.
