Video Watch Patrick Wilson Sing Oklahoma! Classic From Upcoming PBS Special

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s 80th Anniversary premieres on PBS later this month.

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s 80th Anniversary, filmed live in London at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in December 2023, will make its PBS premiere May 31 at 9 PM ET as part of the Great Performances series; check local listings. The concert will also be available to stream on PBS.org and the PBS app.

Get a sneak peek at the TV broadcast in the video above as Tony nominee Patrick Wilson performs the Oklahoma! classic "Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'." Wilson was Tony-nominated for his performance as Curly in the 2002 Broadway revival of Oklahoma!

Directed and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s 80th Anniversary also features Michael Ball, Joanna Ampil, Lucy St. Louis, Daniel Dae Kim, Maria Friedman, Audra McDonald, Julian Ovenden, Aaron Tveit, and Marisha Wallace with additional appearances by Rita Moreno and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The event also features a 40-piece orchestra conducted by Simon Lee. The film of the concert, which screened in U.K. movie theatres in February, is directed by five-time BAFTA winner Julia Knowles.

Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II began collaborating with 1943's Oklahoma!, a landmark musical that is considered the genre's first to fully integrate the book, lyrics, and choreography as agents of forwarding the plot. They would go on to dominate Broadway over the next two decades as both a writing and producing team, writing a string of classic musicals including Carousel, South Pacific, Allegro, The King and I, and The Sound of Music; and producing I Remember Mama and Annie Get Your Gun.

The 80th anniversary concert is part of PBS' Great Performances. All through May, PBS is premiering new filmed productions and concerts. On May 24 at 9 PM ET, PBS will air the Broadway revival of Purlie Victorious starring Leslie Odom, Jr. and Kara Young. Plus, the Free Shakespeare in the Park production of Hamlet starring Ato Blankson-Wood and Audra McDonald's 2022 London Palladium concert are now available to stream on PBS.org and the app.
