Film & TV News See Jessica Lange Play a Broadway Star in The Great Lillian Hall

The film is now streaming on Max, and follows a seasoned Broadway actor who is opening a new play while battling dementia.

Several Broadway stars are featured in The Great Lillian Hall, an HBO Original Movie that was released May 31 on Max. Michael Cristofer directs the film, with a screenplay by Elisabeth Seldes Annacone. Watch the trailer above and see photos from the film below.

The cast features Jessica Lange as Lillian Hall, Kathy Bates as Edith Wilson, Lily Rabe as Margaret Tanner, Jesse Williams as David, and Pierce Brosnan as Ty Maynard.

Loosely inspired by Tony Award-winning actor Marian Seldes, the film follows Lillian Hall, a Broadway actor who has never missed a performance in her extensive career. When her confidence is challenged in rehearsals for a new revival of The Cherry Orchard, a dementia diagnosis threatens to take away her ability to do what she loves most. Screenwriter Seldes Annacone is the niece of the late Seldes, who also suffered from dementia. She died in 2014 at the age of 86.

The Great Lillian Hall is a Crazy Legs Features production, in association with Kolton Pancake and Bold Choices Productions. Bruce Cohen, Steven Rogers, Scott Thigpen, and Marie Halliday serve as producers, with executive producers Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, Michael Cristofer, and Alex Platis. See photos from the film below.
