Tell Me More, Tell Me More: The Grease 50 Reunion, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the classic Broadway musical Grease, is presented June 1 and June 6 at 7 PM atFeinstein’s/54 Below.
Grease has a book, music, and lyrics by Jacobs and the late Warren Casey. Attendees can expect to hear songs from and stories about the '50s-set musical.
Before it was a Broadway hit and film sensation, Grease was a gritty Chicago-set play with music that reflected the lives, language, and tensions of Windy City teens in the 1950s. Grease subsequently opened at the Eden Theatre on Second Avenue in the East Village and made its Broadway debut in February 1972, running nearly 3,400 performances through April 1980.
The 1978 blockbuster film Grease, starring John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John, Stockard Channing, Didi Conn, and Jeff Conaway, was nominated for five Golden Globes and an Oscar and was the winner of the People's Choice Award for Best Musical. Broadway revivals opened in 1994 and 2007.
Nathan Lane, Jennifer Hudson, Billy Eichner, and more will celebrate the animated film's 30th anniversary while also spotlighting its long-running stage musical adaptation.
Running for four months, beginning in June, the small man-made island will host a roster of original work, all commissioned by and developed at Little Island.
The Hairspray and Some Like It Hot composer will be joined by Rory Donovan, Elizabeth Stanley, Shayna Steele, and Marissa Jaret Winokur at the July concert.
Proceeds from the event support Self Help Africa's work to alleviate hunger, poverty, social inequality, and the impact of climate change in sub-Saharan Africa.
