International News London-Bound English Opens at Royal Shakespeare Company May 15

A new staging of Sanaz Toossi's Pulitzer Prize-winning English officially opens at Royal Shakespeare Company's The Other Place in Stratford-Upon-Avon May 15 after beginning previews May 9. Diyan Zora is directing.

Performances will continue through June 1, with a London run at the Kiln Theatre to follow June 5-29. Kiln's opening night will be June 6.

The work, which made its world premiere Off-Broadway at Atlantic Theater Company in 2022, follows a group of adults in Iran preparing for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) in an "English Only" classroom. The play is set to make its Broadway premiere via Roundabout Theatre Company later this year.

The cast includes Nadia Albina as Marjan, Sara Hazemi as Goli, Lanna Joffrey as Roya, Nojan Khazai as Omid, and Serena Manteghi as Elham. Casting is by Lotte Hines.

The production features set and costume design by Anisha Fields, lighting design by Elliot Griggs, sound design by George Dennis, and movement direction by Mariah Tarokh.
