Swept Away, the new musical featuring music and lyrics by Grammy-nominated folk-rock band The Avett Brothers, will arrive on Broadway in the fall.

The musical, seen this past winter at Washington, D.C.'s Arena Stage, will play a Shubert theatre to be announced.

The Avett Brothers revealed the news May 17 at the Forest Hills Stadium. Said Scott and Seth Avett, “Some of you may have already seen our [Broadway-bound] show…. It’s already been an amazing journey for us and a learning experience which we’ve been so privileged and blessed to be a part of, and we are here to announce that Swept Away is indeed officially coming to Broadway this fall!”

The new work features a book by Tony winner John Logan and direction by Tony winner Michael Mayer.

Swept Away
follows four survivors of an 1888 shipwreck off the coast of New Bedford, Massachusetts. As they struggle to stay alive, they must question whether or not they can live with the consequences of their actions, and discover how tragedy can lead to forgiveness.

The Swept Away creative team also includes choreographer David Neumann, music arranger and orchestrator Chris Miller, music arranger and orchestrator/music supervisor Brian Usifer, music director Will Van Dyke, Tony-winning set designer Rachel Hauck, Tony-winning costume designer Susan Hilferty, four-time Tony-winning lighting designer Kevin Adams, Tony-winning sound designer John Shivers, and casting directors Jim Carnahan, Jillian Cimini, and Alexandre Bleau.

The Arena production featured Tony winner John Gallagher, Jr. (Spring Awakening), Tony nominee Stark Sands (Kinky Boots), Adrian Blake Enscoe (Apple TV+’s Dickinson), and Wayne Duvall (1984), each reprising their performances from the musical's 2022 world premiere at Berkeley Repertory Theatre. Broadway casting will be announced at a later date.

Swept Away is produced by Matthew Masten, Sean Hudock, and Madison Wells Live and executive-produced by Wagner Johnson Productions.
