Jeremy Strong won the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play for An Enemy of the People at the 77th Annual Tony Awards, held at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater June 16.
"I want to thank the ushers and the front of house staff who who see me walking in every day looking like I've just been run over by a truck and and see me walk out looking somehow even worse, with bits of pretzels in my hair," said Strong while accepting the award. "This play is cry from the heart and an exhortation to face up to the difficult truths that are staring us all down right now. It's been a privilege to give its mourning and its hope to audiences."
Other nominees included William Jackson Harper for Uncle Vanya, Leslie Odom, Jr. for Purlie Victorious, Liev Schreiber for Doubt, and Michael Stuhlbarg for Patriots.
This is Strong's first Tony win and first nomination. He made his Broadway debut in the 2008 production of A Man for All Seasons.
